Finding Dawn - What made the missing women of the downtown east side nameless and faceless?

Many people believe that a woman is entirely responsible for being a prostitute or street person (despite her situation and circumstances.) The public might believe that these women are unimportant, perhaps that they don't even matter.

How did Dawn suffer from a loss of identity and how did this affect her?

Dawn was taken from her home and stripped of her culture and daily routine. She wasn't able to discover herself before she was uprooted and place in an unfamiliar environment. Even after her death, Dawn became another statistic and her disappearance mattered to very few people. She was not thought of as a human being, but as a number.

LGBT homework

LGBT activist are extremely important in today's society. These activists continue the fight against sexual oppression. From gay liberation to lesbian feminism, LGBT activists continue to stretch mankind's narrow thinking in order to broaden social rights. People such as Harvey Milk – a queer activist and politician – have helped to shape the world we know today. But that doesn't mean the job they've started is over. The need for LGBT supporters grows with every passing day and lives will continue to be lost if no one takes action. On February 12, 2008 a gay boy named Lawrence (Larry) King was shot and delivered to a nearby hospital. The fifteen year old was kept on life support and died two days later. But how could this happen? It is believed that his killer, Brandon Mclnerney, was made aware of King's sexuality (when Larry asked to be his valentine.) This information compelled Brandon to shoot and kill Lawrence King. Why? Why do children think so negatively towards homosexuality? The crime was gay-bias, and was proclaimed as “the most prominent [Hate] crime since the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard”. Gay activists are pivotal in modern society – without them people who struggle against oppression may have very little hope. These activists can give them hope; hope for safety, hope for acceptance and, most importantly, hope for a better future.
